My Advice to Future College Freshmen (Based on my own crazy experiences!)

1.    Microwaves and foil do not go together. No matter how badly you want that Panchero’s burrito, a fire WILL start.
2.     It’s always good to give your roommate a friendly reminder that your microwave is shady and has a thing for burning popcorn if left for the full time.
3.   Follow up to #2: If popcorn does burn, make sure your roommate is very much aware that throwing the     burning bag of popcorn out of a window on the 4th floor of a dorm is not going to solve anything. Seriously.
4.    If you just so happen to find a lovely pair of underwear on the ground in front of your door, it is not an early Christmas present so DO NOT TOUCH.
5.    It’s totally okay to people watch in the dining hall but be sure that the person doesn’t awkwardly make eye contact as you are staring them down. Especially if the person is 300 pounds and a whole foot taller than you.
6.    If you are not a morning person, don’t take an early morning class. It’s a lot worse than you think it is!
7.    Be very careful of the people you trust!
8.   Don’t lose sight of what is important
9.    Get involved in activities and clubs that interest you and will help you for the future
10.   Do not wait until Sunday to do your laundry unless you enjoy fighting off a crowd of people for one washer!

  1. I could have used the advice on popcorn a while ago . About the 3rd week we were moved into our dorm, my roommate and I tried to make popcorn and it smoked up the entire floor and everything smelt awful and burnt for a while. We've also burned ramen before. We're not good at cooking.

    1. I totally feel you on the cooking situation. For some reason, I've managed to burn almost every single bag of popcorn I've made so far! People on my floor don't appreciate the smell of burned popcorn, that's for sure

  2. I relate to the morning class advice. I didn't think getting up at 6:30am would be so bad since that's the time I got up everyday for high school, but it's definitely a lot harder than I thought it would be.

    1. Getting up early seems so much worse in college. Even though in high school we would all get up early and have classes for multiple hours at a time. I'm so thankful I don't have a class before 10:30 next semester! I learned my lesson the hard way, unfortunately.

  3. I think your advice on getting involved is really important to students. what I've learned from being here is that college is what you make of it. If you decide to stay in your room all the time and never go out and see what is going on in a variety of different events you won't get the true feeling of the college expierence.
